Volunteer in Mission trips are short-term mission trips. The trips exist to promote, encourage, and enable First Methodist members to exemplify "Christian love in action" through service at home and abroad. First provides opportunities for service by developing and nurturing relationships with domestic and international Faith Promise partners.
Honduras | October 19-26, 2018 | Registration Closed
This trip will be focused on children, youth and women’s ministry in partnership with our Faith Promise partners, Gary and Cheryl Kuney. Many teenagers have met God in some capacity but are hungry for further growth and age-appropriate discipleship. Another significant aspect of this trip will be to encourage and equip women in raising their families.
Men's Mission | Colorado Springs, CO | December 1-8, 2018
Join the Men's Mission Team this December 1st-8th to support the work of Dale House in Colorado Springs, CO. Dale House reaches out to at-risk youth and young adults. Within the context of community living, they teach these youth the skills necessary to live independently while building healthy relationships.
Beirut, Lebanon | April 4-12, 2019
This small team will work in “tent village” areas of Syrian refugee camps alongside our Faith Promise Partners. They will also teach English in the Christian school for Syrian refugee children, funded by Faith Promise. If you are interested in joining this team, email Rebekah at email@example.com.
Guatemala | June 15-22, 2019
It's not too early to register for the Guatemala Family Trip! (For those who like to plan ahead, the 2020 dates are likely June 20-26.) To find out how many spots remain on the 2019 trip, contact Rebekah.
The application requires a deposit of $200.00 per person or $500.00 for a family. The total cost for the trip is $1,400.00 per person and includes everything except passport costs and meals in the airport. There are a limited number of partial scholarships available through the application.
About the Family Trip:
FUMC’s partner, Escuela Integrada, works with families in a low income bracket whose children would otherwise join their families in working during the day, rather than going to school.
Ministry on our family team may consist of:
- In-school VBS
- After school soccer
- Teacher appreciation day
- Home visits to the student’s homes
- Family Night ministry with students’ families
- Building eco stoves
We also participate in cultural activities that give a hands-on experience of common Guatemalan traditions. This year, for example, one of the teachers hosted our team in acting out a Mayan wedding, and showed our team how the weavings for sale in the market are made. The Family Trip offers the perfect mixture of cultural context and hands-on ministry!
